Such A Lady

“Ease the punishment!” the gods cried out.
“Release the prisoner from all self-doubt!
Then send her flowers, trees, and shady glen,
For she has proved herself whole-souled again!”
And all the gods came dancing down the day,
And all the fairies laughed and shouted, “Yay!”
And all the horses, donkeys, trotted proud,
And even butterflies tried singing out aloud!
Clarinda is their lady of the hour,
Clarinda is the one their flowers shower.
Clarinda, with sweet light upon her face,
Takes happy praise of good men every place!
And now in freedom she walks calm, serene;
Oh, my! Was such a Lady ever seen?
