Not Years

Some lovers wait for many years
To see their lovers true,
But it will not be years, my love,
Till I am seeing you.

Some are held by governments
In silent cells forlorn,
And some are wrecked on desert isles
Where little hope is born.

And some tradition keeps at bay,
With thoughts oppressive, old,
Till love so strong finds out a way
And takes the step that’s bold.

I read of one, for years fifteen
His sweetheart, she did wait,
While he crossed seas to make success,
Then sent for her, not late.

For love that’s strong inside two souls
That have true ends in sight,
That give up never on their goal
To have what love deems right,

They will succeed, at last will win,
And none shall them deny,
And happiness will take them in
Dim sorrow to defy!

Some lovers wait for many years
To see their lovers true,
But it will not be years, my love,
Till I am seeing you.
