Why Does It…

Why does it hurt so much to love you so?
My thought runs through my body—thought of you—
Till all my joints and muscles ache and yell,
“Why do you push me slowly through such hell?”
Why do I think of you, who are so far?
So far, so very far away you are,
And yet I think of you, I think of you.
And yet, below this hell, down deeper still,
There is great wonder that I’ll have my will.
I’ll hear your voice, our lips will seek and find
One happiness of being, self-entwined.
And then, like prisoner released for innocence,
I’ll free this question making much good sense,
Why does it hurt so much to love you still?
