If Love’s O’erwhelming…

If love’s o’erwhelming passion proves too strong,
Step back awhile and sing a tender song.
If too much singing overwhelms her ear,
Step further back and whisper soft, but clear.
If whispers make her sleep, then all’s alright.
Step forth again and guard her through the night.
The sun will rise; she’ll see you standing there,
And smile on you for keeping faithful care.
