If Life Is Error

If life is error, to die is by mistake,
And he who slays is governed by no ill,
While they who bear the dead lead error’s wake
Who’ll die themselves because of no man’s will.
Yet error’s not in life, but living bad,
In choosing sad o’er joy and mad o’er glad,
In cheating, in dishonesty all kind,
And loving not true judgment of thy mind.
Make haste, therefore, to firmly fix thy thought
On what is noble, right, honorable, well fought,
And let no little err lead thee to die.
Integrity grant deepest place in soul
To forward move thee perfect in thine eye,
A smile till death, in life un-errored whole.
