Without An “I”

Oh, what little men these be
Who love authority!
Ask, “What do you think?”
He says, “Authority.”
“And what about this issue over here?”
“The scientists are very clear.”
“But, what do you think yourself?”
“I, with authority, stand firm.”
“So, are you the authority?”
“If I am authorized to say so, I will.”
“And what of men who have no authority?”
“Unauthorized? Perverse!”
“And what of men who have other authorities?”
“Others? Mine are best!”
“How do you know?”
“Oh, what is ‘how’ to me when I’ve authority!”
What little men there are, who try
To be themselves without an “I”.
