On Approaching Age

Your picture on the wall may say,
“Although it’s me, ’twas yesterday,
A yesterday of joyous youth.”

Your mirror answers as it may,
“I’m still the soul of yesterday,
And day by day a surer truth.”

And mind and spirit intertwine
In wisdom of a life so fine
That all the notes of youthful play
Sing on through age, “This is my day!”
