The Lasting Sweet

Sweet Valentine’s—just five more days to go,
Yet now, my sweet, are you more sweet to me
Than any sweet tomorrows I may know.
Yea, sweeter more than name of Valentine,
Or Cupid’s darts, sweet shafted though they be,
Or sweet words sighed that breathe not, “You are mine.”
(Though said a thousand times, they’re always new.)
Such sweetness flies all times from me to you
And sweeter grows, in-flowing to your ear,
Sweeter sings and sings each day of each sweet year
Till Valentine’s has hold on hours all
Whose sweet, sweet seconds swell to great from small!
A moment sweet is Valentine—a kiss
That lives forever in its own sweet bliss.
