Songburst

So soft and so sweet, and so tender and true,
You know when Flor’s singing she’s singing to you,
And though I’m a stranger she might never see
I know when Flor’s singing she’s singing to me.

To you and to me and to every dear mind
That loves hearing loveliness beauty aligned,—
When into a song pours the soul of a rose,
You know that Flor’s singing of joy’s overflows.

Then for love’s sake and lovers you listen with love
To Flor, who has brought down the stars from above,
And the light winds of spring and the pampas-grass sway,
Which swell through your being her beauty’s sweet play.

Oh, if you’ve never heard the rare voice I adore,
Oh, why in the world go on living so poor?
Just give up some minutes and rich quick you’ll get,
With a soul of pure gold you will never regret!

So soft and so sweet, and so tender and true,
You know when Flor’s singing she’s singing to you.
And though I’m a stranger she might never see
I know when Flor’s singing she’s singing to me.
