In The Wind

Flowers of freedom, where have you gone?
“Off in the wind we are scattered.”
Is no petal left for our dreaming upon?
“Off in the wind we are scattered.”

“We are gone, we are flown, we are hid and unshown;
Who would find us must search through his spirit,
Where the seed of one dream, as snow-sunken and chill,
Waits the warmth of his will to come near it.

“Then exertion of effort, then a stirring of ‘I’,
Declaration of flame, independent,
Bursts on out in gold bloom over darkness and doom,
And the leaf of Man’s life is ascendent!”

Oh flowers of freedom, where are you gone?
“In the wind of the mind we lie scattered.”
