Then Hey! For The Winter!

Through fall leaves a-falling
Our hands went a-calling,
Said, “Hi!” with a clasp of May!

Through pale leaves a-failing
Our mouths were exhaling
With kisses that led the way!

Through red ones and yellows
And all their fall’n fellows
We pranced as though it were Spring,

Till Winter came fleetly
And threw around neatly
Soft sugar on everything!

Then branches we’re shaking,
And sweetness we’re taking
Straight into our lips and our eyes,

Till stand we all whited,
Delighted and knighted,
Like snowmen alive and so wise!

Then hey! for the Winter!
The cold and the bitter!
Hey ho! for the snow piled high!

With icicles munching
And heavy boots crunching,
We shout with our joy to the sky!
