To A Writer

To love your life sincerely, true,
To love it way down deep in you;
To keep your flame of will alive,
And through all strife to flash and thrive;
To wave your shining pen in air—
Your own free line of “I do dare!”
While from your mouth a soaring song
Proclaims a plan that’s inner strong—
To strive, to strike, to win your way
Up to the top of your great day,
When all you’ve writ and all you’ve thought
Becomes the hit of all you’ve got,—
Then you can lean on back and smile,
For winning is your happy style!
