By Selfishness Inspired

I had some shoes to sell,
And not too beaten, they.
I asked my price,
A man said, “Nice”
And, shoed, he danced away.
We had agreed,
We did our deed;
Morality sang, “Yay!”

I had an old black hat,
My price I set on that.
A man said, “No,
Too high to go;”
He left, and that was that.
We did agree
To disagree;
Morality sang, “Yay!”

When freedom’s voice
Sings through each choice,
And right-to-choose admired,
Then is the world a moral place,
By selfishness inspired.
