Writing for God

Someone wrote that God said, “You shall have no other gods before me. You shall make no graven image of any man or woman. You shall not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them, for I, thy Lord God, am a jealous God.” Really? Who could believe that the writer of this knew anything at all? For, if God is omnipotent, surely he knows how to keep himself in a state of one hundred per cent happiness all the time, and would never allow such a negative feeling like jealousy to enter his mind. Or is he helpless before his feelings? Do they overcome him and leave him thrashing about?

Who bows or does not bow to anyone or anything could not possibly have an adverse effect on God’s mental condition. Or is he neurotic? He is above such average human behavior. He who writes for God, any god, is a clod, and not worth reading.
