Yay, the wind is light now,
Many birds a-wing,
Everything is ripe now
For the burst of spring.
Softest clouds soft raining,
Waking earth receives;
Tiny buds are gaining,
Busting into leaves.
Now the sun comes flashing,
Clouds rush off to sea;
Lovers all are dashing
To see and meet and be!
Every spot has flowers—
To left, and right, behind—
Blooming through the hours
With color-chart assigned!
Some are gaily gathered,
Pressed to lips and kissed;
Put in hair that’s gathered
And held there with a twist.
Naked feet in grass now,
Sweet and light and fleet,
Make a pretty pass now
To arms that close, complete.
All the trees try dancing,
Partner breezes swing;
Sunlight is romancing
In the thirst of spring!
Hills roll up in rapture,
Then in joy roll down;
Horses in the pasture
Leap and trot around.
Lad and lass come steady,
With no saddles, leap;
Manes in hand, they’re ready
Through fair fields to sweep!
Galloping together,
Hair flung out behind,
There goes springtime weather,
Hidden trails to find!
Yay, the wind is light now,
Many birds a-wing;
Everything is ripe now
For the burst of spring!
