Past Division

Remember now when we first met
And my two eyes were on you set,
And my two lips were trembling yet,
Remember how?

Remember when at last I spake,
As though a dam within me break,
My clenching hands uplift to take,
Remember then?

Remember how I shuddered so
My fierce desire to overthrow
Till others should drift off and go,
Remember now?

Remember when, alone at last,
With great moon’s beams upon us cast,
And I said, “All my past is passed,”
Remember then?

Remember how through space you flew
And whispered me, “I start anew,”
Till suddenly as one we grew—
Remember now!

Forever present, as we meet,
My two strong eyes upon you, sweet,
While time that barred is here complete,
Forever!
