What is in it for me?

To take a voyage on over the sea
I first must ask, “What is in it for me?”
If someone wants me to work like a bee,
Then ask, I will, “What is in it for me?”
If tyrants consigned me to slavery,
I’d surely know nothing’s in it for me,
But where there’s a country open and free
Then every joy is there waiting for me–
And waiting for everyone ready to be
The owners and masters of selves, you see,
For everyone asks “What is in it for me?”
Who loves their mind’s morality,
And damns the traitor’s history—
The dictator’s killing spree!
My life is mine; your is yours—agree,
And we both must ask, “What is in it for me?”
