O Sunset

When I awoke this morning
To see you by my side,
I knew as sure as light-fall
My Valentine was pride.

So silently you lay there,
And almost smiling, too,
While fall and rise of breathing
Sent Valentines from you.

So simple, so serenely,
So innocent you lay,
I felt an age of Valentine’s
Run through me all the way.

Knew I, then, I was Valentine
And you’d wake up to see
The life we have together
Is not a dream to be,
But fixed and firm and solid
As all reality.

And now you see and watch me,
As though I were the sun.
O Earth, O Love, my Darling,
O Sunset, here I come!
