Ah, Sleep

Ah, Sleep, divine Sleep, fair restorer of divine Wakefulness,
Thy job though hast done right well,
And I’m again refreshed to my very best.
What more of sleep can I say but this?
She soothed me truly with her beautiful kiss,
And if I dreamed I knew it not,
Or ran and played in some warm garden-plot,
Or swam deep seas or climbed high hills—
I’ll never remember my deep-sleep thrills—
But when I woke, all weariness gone,
I felt a god of the brilliant dawn.
My step is firm, my sight is clear,
In mind and limb I have great cheer,
And wakefulness is a thing most dear.
Ah, Sleep, divine Sleep, fair restorer of divine Wakefulness!
