Yellow Flowers

Chasing the whole town,
Curb to curb and street to street,
Snatching the sparkling houses,
Commanding the young green grasses,
Tree to tree and door to door,
Then bank to bank and store to store,
Where sidewalks, straight and true,
Under blue blue skies,
Line out and off and far,
Sweep hundreds and hundreds,
And thousands and thousands,
And millions of yellow flowers!

Yellow flowers rush in from far away;
Yellow flowers set out for Everywhere;
Left, right, behind, ahead,
Yellow flowers stream and spread!

Yes, they’re gentle; yes, they’re sweet;
Curb to curb and street to street,
Bank to bank and store to store,
Taking the town with a yellow roar.

Yellow flowers win my face,
At my shoulders almost sing.
I own them all, this is my place—
The perfect world of Spring!
