A New Year

A new year’s begun;
It has no name but the name I give it.
I am its sun.
My thoughts are slanting rays
Which make it bright.
My will, a wind of glad,
Yet calm delight.
My hands, upon a wheel,
Or holding pen,
Each day give place and purpose,
Label, price,
And what is dark and hard
To overcome,
Is but a shrinking shadow
To the rising sun.
