Birth (a poem from many years ago)

Out of the womb with a wild joy wrung
I sprang, and bound the world in my boundless sight,
And sang of delight
And strong power, and freedom.

The face of fair earth
Flushed with life at my birth,
Shadowless shone the sklies.
Mount upon mouint spake gigantic,
Lightning lashed lightning with joy;
Wild wind moving, churned sea-foam frantic,
The spirit of my spirit when a boy.

Answered black clouds with laughter proud,
Gathered great gain in fierce rain;
Sold out my soul to the sun.

O Life, let my love for thee thrive in my striving,
In my power to praise thee set free.
Ope my mouth as an organ high-soaring,
Sovereign, supreme, nigh thee!
